Bill Nye the Science Guy - The Moon (Season 1 - Episode 11)
Did you know that moonlight is actually just sunlight reflecting off of moon rocks? This episode explores the moon cycle, the orbit of the moon, and the way the moon interacts with the ocean tides.
Many people have noticed that the same side of the Moon always faces the Earth. Some people believe that this means that the Moon does not rotate. However, that is incorrect. The Moon does rotate on its axis! It takes one month for the Moon to rotate on its axis AND one month for it to revolve around the Earth. Since the rotation and revolution period are the same, the Moon keeps the same face pointed towards Earth all the time. The video below does an excellent job at showing you this phenomenon.
